Lauren Hill made it through a full basketball season while raising more than $1.3 million for research into the type of brain tumor that will likely end her life.
The 19-year-old freshman at Mount St. Joseph's was able to play in four games early in the season and made five layups. As her condition worsened, she became an honorary coach, attending games when possible without playing.
The team moved its end-of-the-season dinner to a room at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, where Hill was being treated this week, so that she should join them. She attended in a wheelchair and autographed her teammates' jerseys.
Coach Dan Benjamin says Hill is trying to set an example by getting the most out of each day left.
